This Privacy Policy describes how Nouvel (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Nouvel mobile application (the “App”).

Information we collect

Content you provide

This includes journal entries, guided journey sessions, check ins, private letters, photos you attach to entries, and other reflective content you choose to create within the App, as well as information you provide during account setup, such as the areas of life and feelings you choose, general location (country, state, and city), and preferences.

Voice notes

If you use a voice note to write, the App records audio only while you hold the microphone control, and only after you have granted microphone access. The recording is sent to a transcription provider, the words come back into your entry, and the audio is not stored by us or kept by the provider beyond what is needed to transcribe it. You can always type instead; no feature requires the microphone.

Account information

An account is required to use the App. Depending on how you choose to sign in, we may receive a name and email address, or an email address alone.

Usage information

We collect limited, anonymized information about how the App is used, such as which features are accessed, to help us understand and improve the product. This information is not tied to your identity or your journal content.

Communications

If you contact us for support, we collect the information you provide in order to respond to you.

How we use your information

AI features

Certain features of the App use artificial intelligence to generate reflections, follow up questions, affirmations, a Becoming Blueprint, and the script and spoken audio of a guided visualization, all based on content you provide. Each feature sends only the text it needs: a reflection reads the entry you just wrote, a blueprint reads that one journey, and the daily question reads a short list of what you have already written about. Nothing reads your whole journal, and nothing runs in the background.

These requests are handled on our own server and passed to third party AI service providers located in the United States that generate text, transcribe speech, and produce spoken audio for us under written contracts with confidentiality and data protection terms. Your content is not used to train any third party’s general purpose AI models, is not used to build a profile of you, and is never shown to other users or to us.

Private Letters are never sent to any AI feature.

If content you submit appears to reflect a crisis or safety concern, the App may present a supportive message. This feature is not a substitute for professional care, and is described further in our Terms of Service.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share information only with service providers who act on our instructions to run the App, each bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations that are at least as protective as this policy:

We keep a current list of the specific providers behind each category and will give it to you on request. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Nouvel or others.

Your choices

You may delete individual entries at any time. You can also delete your account, and everything stored with it, from inside the App under Profile. Deletion is scheduled 24 hours ahead, the account continues to work normally in the meantime, and you can cancel it with one tap. No part of this requires contacting us. Microphone and notification permissions can be withdrawn at any time in your device settings.

Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable law, including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict its processing, and to ask which specific recipients have handled it. Email us and we will respond within the time the law allows. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.

How long we keep information

Your content stays for as long as your account exists. When you delete an entry it is removed from our systems; when you delete your account, your content, account record, and photos are removed once the 24 hour window passes, and any AI generated text tied to them goes with them. Voice recordings are not kept. Anonymous usage events are kept in aggregate only.

Data security

We use industry standard measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

Nouvel is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from young children in a manner inconsistent with applicable law.

International users

Nouvel is operated from the United States and our providers are located there, so your information is processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where the law of your country requires safeguards for such transfers, we rely on contractual protections with our providers, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.

Credits and licences

Portions of the App use third party data and font assets under their respective open licences, including the Open Database License and the SIL Open Font License.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and notify you through the App.
